On Thursday, August 21st, we held an event at our Tokyo branch, welcoming our guests from Switzerland, Dr. Bettina Franke (Timbagroup Holding AG) and Dr. Steffen Franke (ETH Zurich, Institute of Structural Engineering (IBK)).
The two engineers and timber researcher gave presentations on case studies and technologies of Timbagroup, a group company that promotes the use of wood in construction and wood-based materials globally, primarily in Europe, as well as the challenges facing realizing a carbon-free society.
There was also a fruitful discussion with our employees, during which many questions were asked about TS3’s construction method. The company’s vision is “Think in concrete – build with wood”. The future potential of ‘Scrimber’ (Scrimber CSC) technology, which upcycles low-quality wood into high-performing building products, and ‘Timber Basements’ (Timbase) technology, which constructs foundations and basements entirely from wood, was also discussed.
It was a very meaningful exchange that envisaged the future of wooden architecture and the global environment.
